International mediators, including Qatar, Egypt and the US, were on Friday pushing for another extension of the Gaza truce ahead of its expiration at 7am local time (05:00 GMT).
The Israeli army has issued a statement saying that it has resumed fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
It says that Hamas violated the truce by firing into Israel territory.

"Hamas violated the operational pause, and in addition, fired toward Israeli territory. The IDF has resumed combat against the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip," the IDF wrote on Telegram.
