The leaders of the three countries ratified their alliance at their first summit, held on July 6 in Niamey, capital of Niger.
In the final statement, they point out that they have "decided to take another step towards greater integration between the Member States."
"To this end, they adopted the treaty establishing a confederation between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger called the Confederation of Sahel States," the document quotes.

Les dirigeants des trois pays ont entériné ainsi leur alliance lors de leur premier sommet samedi à Niamey.
