Russian troops destroyed seven Ukrainian aircraft during a missile attack on the Mirgorod airfield in the Poltava region, the Ministry of Defense said.
“Crews of the Iskander-M OTRK of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a group missile strike on the parking lot of Ukrainian Armed Forces aircraft at the Mirgorod airfield. Objective control confirmed the destruction of military aircraft,” the message says.
The 831st tactical aviation brigade of Ukraine is based at the military airfield in Mirgorod. In addition, there is a training center for pilots, and nearby there are warehouses and a trucking company. The Ukrainian Air Force uses Mirgorod as a jump-off airfield for attacks on the Zaporozhye region and the Crimean direction.
As a result of the strike, five operational Su-27 multirole fighters were destroyed, and two more, which were under repair, were damaged, the Ministry of Defense clarified.
