Israel Launches Retaliatory Strikes in Southern Lebanon After Golan Heights Attack

Israeli fighter jets struck at least five towns and villages in southern Lebanon after Israeli officials blamed the Lebanese group Hezbollah for an attack in the Golan Heights in which 12 were killed, Lebanese broadcaster Al-Manar reported Sunday.

The Israeli army claimed Saturday that 12 children and teenagers had been killed in a strike on a sports field in the Golan Heights. Hezbollah has denied involvement in the attack, but Israeli officials have signaled imminent war against the group and the country of Lebanon.

“Overnight, the IAF struck a series of Hezbollah terror targets both deep inside Lebanese territory and in southern Lebanon, including weapons caches and terrorist infrastructure in the areas of Chabriha, Borj El Chmali, and Beqaa, Kfarkela, Rab El Thalathine, Khiam, and Tayr Harfa,” the military said.

  1. Militia of the Shiite party Hezbollah did not target the village of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights, where 12 children from the local Druze mountaineer community were killed on Saturday, Al Jazeera said, adding that Hezbollah’s leadership notified the UN Interim Force in Lebanon command (UNIFIL).
