One Killed, Seven Injured in Tel Aviv Attack

One person has been killed and seven more have been wounded as a result of an explosion that rocked Tel Aviv, The Jerusalem Post reported on Friday, citing emergency services.

A spokesperson for the Yemen Ansar Allah movement (aka Houthis) took credit for the attack.

Media reported earlier that an explosion occurred near the consulate of the United States in Tel Aviv. A US official said that the embassy office was not damaged and no US citizens were harmed in the attack, according to Axios.

  1. An explosion at a building in Tel Aviv early Friday left one person dead and two lightly injured, according to an Israeli emergency services spokesperson. A body bearing injuries caused by shrapnel was found in the building, said Police spokesman Dean Elsdunne. The Israeli military is investigating the cause of the blast, including the possibility that it was caused by a drone attack.

  2. "An initial inquiry indicates that the explosion in Tel Aviv was caused by the falling of an aerial target, and no sirens were activated. The incident is under thorough review. Israeli security forces are currently operating at the scene," the press service informed.

The Israeli Air Force "increased its air patrols in order to protect Israeli airspace," it added.

The explosion in Tel Aviv downtown could be the consequence of the drone crash, Israeli mass media said earlier.

  3. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Friday claimed responsibility for a drone attack on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, where police said one person was found dead.

A statement from the rebels, who have carried out dozens of attacks against Red Sea shipping in what they say is an act of solidarity with Palestinians during the Gaza war, said their “UAV force” attacked “one of the important targets in the occupied Jaffa region, what is now called Israeli Tel Aviv.”
