Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas “strongly condemned” the killing of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh in an Israeli raid in his residence in Tehran, the Palestinian state news agency WAFA reported on Thursday.
“President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine strongly condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, deeming it a cowardly act and a serious escalation,” Abbas’s office said in the statement.
“He urged our people and their forces to unite, remain patient, and stand firm against the Israeli occupation.”
Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital of Tehran, the Palestinian militant group said in a statement on Wednesday.
The agency said Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were "martyred" after their residence in Tehran was targeted.

A number of other senior Hamas figures, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, have described Haniyeh's death as an "assassination" and vowed to retaliate.
Nobody has yet to claim responsibility.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said the cause of the "incident" was not immediately clear but was "being investigated", AFP news agency reported.
The Israeli military refused to comment the report of the demise of Hamas Politburo head Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
