UK elections: Labour on course for landslide victory

Keir Starmer pledged Friday to start a period of "national renewal" in the UK after his opposition Labour party crossing the 326-seat threshold for a working majority in the House of Commons, defeating the ruling Conservatives in the general election.

Britain's main opposition Labour party looks set for a landslide election win, exit polls have indicated, with Keir Starmer replacing Rishi Sunak as prime minister, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.

As polling stations closed at 10:00pm, the survey for UK broadcasters suggested centre-left Labour would win 410 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons, with the right-wing Tories managing 131.

  1. The 4th July 2024 general election in Britain is historic. The polls delivered a historic victory for Keir Starmer's Labor and a historic rout for Rishi Sunak's Tories. At the same time, they gave - after 7 failed attempts - the ticket for Parliament to the leader of the far-right party UK Reform and one of the pioneers of Brexit, Nigel Farage. And they were marked by historic participation.
