Pentagon: Austin to lead US deployment to Middle East

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will lead the deployment of additional troops in the Middle East. This was stated by Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh.

"The Secretary will lead multiple upcoming force realignment efforts to strengthen the protection of U.S. forces throughout the region," she told reporters at a briefing.

Sing added that the additional contingent would provide increased support to Israel's defense and would also demonstrate the United States' readiness to "respond to the threats of the evolving crisis."

A Pentagon spokeswoman explained that a final decision on the size of the contingent and specific units has not yet been made.

She also noted that the US Department of Defense has not been in contact with Iranian colleagues on the topic of preventing escalation in the Middle East.
