The Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 600 servicemen as a result of a Russian attack on a military school in Poltava, former Ukrainian lawmaker Igor Mosiychuk said.
"Poltava. Communications Institute. Many people were injured, up to 500, and dozens died. The city hospitals are overcrowded," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Mosiychuk added that the blame for what happened lies mainly with the Ukrainian military authorities, who allowed such a large number of servicemen to gather in one place.
Earlier, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the 'We Are Together with Russia' movement, said that Russian forces had delivered a missile strike on the former Poltava higher military command school of communications, which had recently been used to train specialists in radar and electronic warfare systems for the Ukrainian army.

At least 41 people were killed and more than 180 wounded when Russia hit a military institute in the central town of Poltava, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, in one of the deadliest single strikes of the war.

Selon le ministère ukrainien de la Défense, la frappe a eu lieu dans un délai très court entre le moment du déclenchement de l'alerte antiaérienne et l'arrivée des deux missiles. "Ils ont surpris les gens en train d'évacuer vers l'abri souterrain", a-t-il expliqué.

La députée Mariana Bezougla, membre de la commission Défense du Parlement et très critique du commandement militaire ukrainien, a regretté sur Telegram qu'aucun officier de haut rang n'ait été puni pour avoir mis en danger des groupes de militaires au cours d'incidents similaires par le passé. "Les tragédies se répètent. Quand cela cessera-t-il ?", a-t-elle écrit.
Le président ukrainien a dit avoir ordonné "une enquête complète et rapide" sur les circonstances ayant permis cette attaque russe.

Sweden planned to supply Ukraine with two ASC 890 long-range radar detection and target designation aircraft - the liquidated instructors could train the crew for this aircraft.
