Kremlin spokesman says Israel has no role for UN in Middle East settlement after Antonio Guterres persona non grata

Israel does not see any role for the UN in the settlement of the Middle East conflict, which became evident after the country declared Antonio Guterres, the organization’s secretary-general, as persona non grata, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Essentially, we see Israel's point of view, which says that Israel does not allow any role for the United Nations. Indeed, the situation is extremely tense in the region, and we call on everyone for restraint," he said.

Peskov made the comment when asked whether Israel’s declaration of the UN secretary-general as persona non grata could be viewed as a sign that the UN role in the settlement of the Middle East conflict is diminishing.

Israel declares UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata and bans entry to the country, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Friday.
"Israeli Foreign Minister Katz said today [Wednesday] that he has declared UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata in Israel, banning him from entering the country. This decision was made in light of Guterres' reaction to Iran's heinous attack on Israel, in which he participated... and did not unequivocally condemn this serious aggression," the statement said.
Katz accused Guterres of failing to condemn the Iranian missile attack, stating that he "does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil."
Additionally, according to the Israeli foreign minister, the UN secretary-general supports Hamas fighters.
