Hungary announces closure of Balkan route against refugees

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that the Balkan route, used by refugees to reach Europe, has been closed following the summit held on Monday in Brussels between Turkey and the European Union, while he insisted on rejecting the resettlement of asylum seekers among EU countries.

After leaving the meeting of EU leaders, Orban stated that the Western Balkans route was closed, according to ATV portal.

On the tentative agreement reached with Turkey, the Hungarian minister said that Budapest "clearly" opposes the proposal which stipulates that for every Syrian refugee sent back to Turkey from the Greek islands, another Syrian will be legally relocated from Turkey to EU member states.

This proposal was one of the proposals reviewed on Monday by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during the European summit.

Orban described Turkey's proposals as "difficult", indicating that Hungary and Slovakia have denounced the system of refugee resettlement before the European Court of Justice, as both countries oppose the proposal.

Orban insisted that Hungary does not accept "any version" of the refugee resettlement among EU countries.
