The United Kingdom is not going to carry out a military operation in Syria, a spokesperson for UK Prime Minister Theresa May said on Thursday.
The remarks followed UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson’s statement that the United Kingdom should again consider the use of military force in Syria to resolve the crisis there.
“There are no plans for military action. We are working with the international community to look at how to bring the conflict to an end,” the spokesperson said, as quoted by ITV News.
The Syrian civil war between government troops and a number of opposition factions and terrorist groups has been ongoing for five years.
The United Kingdom is a part of the US-led coalition that is carrying out airstrikes against Daesh, outlawed in Russia. Britain and its allies also call for the resignation of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
