U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Sunday expressed hope for European firms to impose sanctions on Iran, Al Arabiya local news reported.
He made the remarks in a press conference on the sideline of his visit to Saudi Arabia.
He also called on Iranian army to withdraw from Iraq, welcoming the Saudi-Iraqi coordination council which would be formed soon, describing it as a way to move Iraq forward.
"We are looking for a strong Iraq and this could be through good neighboring ties," he confirmed.
The U.S. official also expressed his country's interest in protecting the Gulf unity.
Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir highlighted that the two sides discussed the Iranian threats in the region and the Qatari crisis.
He said that Saudi would negotiate with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt, who severed ties with Qatar in June for terrorism support allegations, over the next step about Qatar.

‘We don’t need you on this’: Trump says US can pressure Iran without EU’s help...
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήDonald Trump said the EU would have supported US sanctions on Iran if he was insistent. But, according to the US president, he allowed Germany and France to keep making money with Tehran as America was capable of putting pressure on Iranians on its own.
When asked by Fox News if Europe is going to support his new strategy on Iran, Trump replied by saying that he has really warm relations with French and German leaders.“They’re great friends of mine. They really are. I get along with all of them, whether it’s Emmanuel [Macron] or whether it’s Angela [Merkel]... I really like those people,” he said.
As for the Iranian issue, Trump stressed: “I told them [the EU]: ‘Just keep making money. Don’t worry about it. We don’t need you on this.”
He expressed the belief that Europe was reluctant to back his anti-Iranian push for purely economic reasons......https://www.rt.com/usa/407472-trump-pressure-iran-eu/
In a tight-lipped statement, Baghdad rejected a call by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for Iran-backed Shia militias to “go home” after the demise of Islamic State in Iraq...
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήEarlier on Sunday, Rex Tillerson said at a rare meeting with top Iraqi and Saudi Arabian officials that Iraq’s Shiite militias – also known as Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) – and their Iranian advisers need to leave Iraq as the struggle against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is nearing an end.
But Baghdad seems reluctant to go along with Washington’s request, judging by a polite but robust remark made on Monday by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office.
“No party has the right to interfere in Iraqi matters,” the statement posted on Facebook reads. It added that many PMU members were native Iraqis who made “enormous sacrifices to defend their country and the Iraqi people.”
