Russia, South Ossetia to sign deal on allied relations, integration

Russian President Vladimir Putin will on Wednesday receive his South Ossetian counterpart Leonid Tibilov in the Kremlin.

After the two leaders’ talks, the Treaty on Allied Relations and Integration for 25 years will be signed.

An agreement on state border between Russia and South Ossetia should dispel Georgia’s insinuations about alleged preparations for "annexation" and "accession", the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday in connection with South Ossetian Foreign Minister David Sanakoev’s visit to Moscow on February 17-19.

Ukraine condemns Russia-'Abkhazia' deal

 The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the country does not recognize the alliance between Russia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia.

Russia and the self-proclaimed independent area in Georgia on Monday signed a strategic alliance agreement, which includes a controversial collective defense pact.

Georgians Protest Planned Military Alliance Between Abkhazia and Russia

Tens of thousands of Georgians marched through Tbilisi Saturday against what they say is the government's passive reaction to a planned military alliance between Russia and the breakaway Abkhazia republic.

The protesters say the agreement, which has yet to be finalized, is a step toward Russian annexation of Abkhazia.
