Παραίτηση ντελ Πόντε από την "έρευνα" ΟΗΕ για Συρία

Με αιχμές παραιτήθηκε η Κάρλα ντελ Πόντε από την Επιτροπή Έρευνας των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για τα εγκλήματα στη Συρία, υποστηρίζοντας πως ο ρόλος της ήταν τελικά να αποτελεί μόνο «άλλοθι».

Τη διαβεβαίωσή της ότι η διεθνής Δικαιοσύνη θα ασχοληθεί με τον πρόεδρο της Συρίας, Μπασάρ Αλ Άσαντ, ακόμη και αν αυτός παραμείνει στην εξουσία υπό κάποια ειρηνευτική συμφωνία, έδωσε η Κάρλα Ντελ Πόντε.

GENEVA, September 16 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Foreign Ministry is “deeply disappointed” by the fact that experts from the U.N. commission investigating possible human rights violations in Syria have turned down the invitation to visit that country. “We would like to express our deep disappointment at the fact that the experts did not use two invitations to visit the country, sent to commission member Carla del Ponte by both Syria’s Great Mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun and the Syrian Government,” Deputy Russian Permanent Representative to the U.N. agencies and other international organisations in Geneva Andrei Nikiforov said on Monday, September 16.

Aussagen von Zeugen, die von der jüngsten C-Waffen-Attacke betroffen waren, bestätigen laut Carla del Ponte die Vermutung, dass das Giftgas von syrischen Regimegegnern eingesetzt wurde.
Die namhafte Schweizer Juristin gehört zur Uno-Sonderkommission zur Ermittlung von Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Syrien.

„Vorerst hat die Expertenkommission keine Beweise dafür bekommen, dass die C-Waffen von der Regierungsarmee eingesetzt wurden“, fügte sie hinzu.
Zuvor hatte sie laut Reuters erklärt, dass die Uno „über starke, jedoch nicht unumstößliche“ Beweise dafür verfüge, dass die C-Waffen im März bei Aleppo ebenfalls von der Opposition eingesetzt worden waren.

As the Syrian revolt continues to tear the country apart, the international community has been eager to condemn Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, even as it became clear that the rebels do not, in fact, represent a popular uprising against the oppression of the Assad regime. According to UN diplomat Carla del Ponte (May 2013***), however, it appears that the recent chemical weapons attack was carried out by the Syrian rebels and not the regime, as it had been widely assumed. Speaking to a Swiss television channel, del Ponte said that there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels had carried out the attack. She also said UN investigators had seen no evidence of the Syrian army using chemical weapons, but that further investigation was needed.
