Syria: Turkish incursion is 'flagrant aggression'. Ankara did not await permission from Damascus

The Syrian government has said that Turkey informed Syria ahead of a major overnight military incursion but did not await Syrian agreement to the action, Reuters news agency reported.
Turkish soldiers guarding the tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria were successfully evacuated to Turkey in the military operation early on Saturday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.

Feel confident, you are not alone, Turkey’s top general tells soldiers in Syria. (Süleyman Shah Tomb)

Turkish Chief of Staff Gen. Necdet Özel has addressed the Turkish soldiers keeping guard at the Süleyman Şah tomb in Syria in a special Eid-al-Adha message, saying the army would lend support to the staff in the event of an attack on the area.

“You are successfully performing this duty that was assigned to you at this critical period Özel said.

Συρία: Προέλαση τζιχαντιστών προς μαυσωλείο, (Süleyman Shah Tomb), που φρουρούν Τούρκοι

Οι μαχητές του Ισλαμικού Κράτους (ΙΚ) προελαύνουν προς μαυσωλείο στη βόρεια Συρία, σε περιοχή που θεωρείται από την Τουρκία κυρίαρχο έδαφός της και φρουρείται από τούρκους στρατιώτες, ανακοίνωσε ο αντιπρόεδρος της τουρκικής κυβέρνησης Μπουλέντ Αρίντς. Μαίνονται οι σφοδρές συγκρούσεις των κουρδικών δυνάμεων με τζιχαντιστές στα σύνορα Ιράκ - Συρίας. Σε μία θετική εξέλιξη, το Ισλαμικό Κράτος άφησε ελεύθερους περισσότερους από 70 κούρδους μαθητές από το Χαλέπι, οι οποίοι είχαν απαχθεί από τη βόρεια Συρία τον περασμένο Μάιο, όπως ανακοίνωσε το Συριακό Παρατηρητήριο Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων.

No ISIL/ISIS attack on Turkish tomb in Syria (Military sources)

Turkish military sources on Sept. 29 categorically denied any attack by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the Suleiman Shah tomb, an official enclave in Syria protected by Turkish troops.

A ranking military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Hürriyet Daily News the “claims” in The Washington Post story on Dec. 26, 2013 about ISIL surrounding the tomb and taking patrolling Turkish soldiers “hostage” were “untrue and baseless.”  “We do not have any such problems” the source said.

Erdogan confirms "aid" to Turkish military post inside Syria. - Süleyman Shah Tomb

A Turkish convoy has carried “aid” into Syria, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on April 23, responding to claims that Turkish forces have started an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) near the tomb of Süleyman Shah, which sits 25 kilometers from the border and remains under Turkish sovereignty under a 1921 treaty.

“Right now, the issue is not about ISIL. The job of our convoy there is to transfer aid to the Süleyman Shah tomb. Our friends in charge are continuing the effort,” Erdoğan told journalists after hosting primary school students in Ankara for national Children’s Day.

Turkey begins espionage investigation after Syria leak

ANKARA - Turkey has started an espionage investigation after a discussion between top officials on potential military action in Syria was leaked on YouTube, heralding a possible government crackdown on its political opponents after elections on Sunday.
The recording of the meeting between Turkey's intelligence chief, foreign minister and deputy head of the military was by far the most serious breach in weeks of highly sensitive leaks, a scandal which Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has cast as a plot to sabotage the state and topple him.

US, EU officials react to Turkey's YouTube ban

Officials from the United States and the European Union have reacted to the Turkish government's move to block access to YouTube, hours after leaked recordings of a key security meeting were published on the video sharing website.

Marie Harf, U.S. State Department deputy spokesperson, has answered a question on the issue during the press briefing March 27. Harf repeated that Washington is against any violation of free speech and calls Ankara to unblock access to YouTube, as well as Twitter.

Spying on key security meeting on Syria is "declaration of war" -Turkish FM, Ahmet Davutoğlu

Recording a top level security meeting and leaking it onto the Internet is tantamount to declaring war on Turkey, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has said.

“Wiretapping our prime minister, ministers and top officials is an open declaration of war against the Turkish Republic,” Davutoğlu told reporters March 27. “Taking the necessary precautions is the state’s duty.”

His remarks came hours after an illegal recording of a secret security meeting held at the Foreign Ministry was published on YouTube.

Turkey to defend historical tomb in Syria. -Turkish President Abdullah Gul

Turkish President Abdullah Gul on Sunday vowed to protect the Süleyman Shah Tomb in Syria if it comes under attack, local media reported.

"Some countries have lands outside their homelands. Suleyman Shah Tomb is our land outside Turkey. We will protect it just as we defend our homeland," Gul said.

"It's Turkey's soil and it will have its flag there. Everybody should know this," he added, in response to recent threats from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant to lower Turkey's national flag on the tomb before March 24.
