Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have not been able to make any results on the reunification of Cyprus after 42 years of Turkish occupation in the northern portion of the island.
The negotiations had taken place in the Swiss resort of Mont Pelerin.
"Despite their best efforts, they have not been able to achieve the necessary further convergences on criteria for territorial adjustment that would have paved the way for the last phase of the talks," the UN said in a statement.
Both party's have returned to Cyprus to "reflect on the way forward."
The Greek side is adamant that only with the removal of Turkey's 35,000 occupying military force from the island can see reunification move forward.
