Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about changes in the country's nuclear doctrine

Having analyzed recent conflicts and Western actions in connection with the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Moscow is making changes to its nuclear doctrine, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told TASS.

According to him, work on these adjustments is already “at an advanced stage” - at the stage of “fine-tuning” the document, but specific deadlines for its completion cannot yet be given. When carrying out this work, the deputy foreign minister explained, the experience of “studying and analyzing the development of conflicts in recent years” is taken into account, including “the escalation course of our Western opponents” in connection with the events in Ukraine.

Ryabkov emphasized that Russia’s nuclear doctrine touches on “the most important aspects of ensuring our national security,” so the process of finalizing it is “quite difficult,” as is the question of the timing of its completion.

According to Ryabkov, Western countries, through their actions, forced Russia to raise the issue of bringing its nuclear doctrine into line with current needs caused by the aggravated foreign policy situation.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia explained that Moscow constantly checks its strategic documents in the field of nuclear deterrence with the requirements of current challenges.

  1. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia-US relations are at a historic low, dismissing the idea that the two sides could gradually improve them in the foreseeable future.

In an interview with one of the country’s major state-run broadcasters, Russia 1, the top state official emphasized that Washington has been consistently trampling on Russia’s interests and exerting pressure on Moscow for several decades.

Ties between the two states have reached “a cracking-up point” during Joe Biden’s presidency, according to Peskov, who stressed that the US administration is demonstrating an openly hostile position towards Russia by supporting Ukraine.
