Russian communists compare Lenin statue demolition in Ukraine to zombie movies

MOSCOW, September 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The Communist Party has condemned the demolition of a massive statue of Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, comparing the events to the scenes of zombie films.
The party’s first deputy chairman, Igor Melnikov, said the scenes in which people show their disregard of history and ideals of their grandfathers remind of “zombie movies where the virus is rapidly spreading.”
“In such films, there is always healthy resistance which in ultimately wins,” the Russian lawmaker stressed.

Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office to sue Communist Party in court. (“We have rectified a historical mistake")

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office and Security Service have instituted 308 criminal cases against the Communist Party, the UNN news agency said on Thursday citing Chairwoman of the State Register Service Anna Onishchenko.

The communists “are suspected in their support of Crimea’s annexation and the creation of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics,” the prosecutors say.

Deputy Justice Minister Ihor Alexeyev said that “irrefutable evidence” had been provided to the court that proved that “both the supreme leadership of Ukraine’s Communist Party and local leaders committed actions in support of the separatist movement in the eastern regions.”

Ukrainian dissolves Communist Party faction

Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Olexandr Turchynov on Thursday dissolved the Communist faction in the assembly due to the absence of the minimum required number of lawmakers in the group.

Turchynov explained that, according to the new Ukrainian legislation passed on Tuesday, the speaker has the right to disband a parliamentary faction if it becomes smaller than it was at the first session.

The Communist faction in the Ukrainian parliament gained 33 seats after the 2012 parliamentary elections. However this year, 10 lawmakers decided to leave the group and there were no newcomers.

The association agreement Moldova has signed with the European Union take no account of Moldova’s interests in the east, Moldova’s former President and leader of the country’s biggest Party of Communists, Vladimir Voronin, said on Friday.
“The association agreement signed between Moldova and the European Union does not take due account of our interests in the east. We should not lose our partners and limit our development possibilities,” he said.

Ukrainian MPs call for immediate troop withdrawal from country’s east

Ukrainian troops deployed in the country’s east should immediately return to their bases, the country’s parliament said in a memorandum. The freshly-adopted document also urges constitutional reforms based on the decentralization of Kiev’s power.

With 226 votes required to pass the law, the Ukrainian parliament finally adopted the so-called ‘Memorandum of Peace and Consent’, 252 MPs voting in favor.

Ukraine’s Communist Party Vows Not to Recognize May 25 Election. - Petro Symonenko announced plans to withdraw

Ukraine’s Communist Party, whose leader has been banned from withdrawing his candidacy for the presidency, will not recognize the results of the upcoming May 25 election, People’s Deputy Alexander Golub said.

“We will support neither candidate as we have no choice in Ukraine. Everything happening now is a farce and we acknowledge neither the results of this election nor the person who will be elected president,” Golub told RIA Novosti.
